Thirteen short days ago, College Hockey News managing editor Adam Wodon, a veteran college hockey writer and broadcaster, took to twitter to point out the following:

He’s not wrong. That tweet begat a stream of St. Lawrence alums stating their continued grievances with the way the program is being run, with Wodon backing up his words by noting that St. Lawrence has a 36.5 percent Corsi For (shot attempts for as a percentage of total shot attempts), which for those of you unfamiliar with advanced stats, is, like Jim Carr’s rug, sensationally awful.

On Feb. 5, St. Lawrence head coach Mark Morris sat down (or got on the phone with, it isn’t really clear) CHN’s Josh Seguin to discuss the state of the program.

Among the highlights, speaking about recruiting, Morris said, “You know it is difficult, when you have other coaches from other schools in the NCAA coming to your building and trying to recruit your upperclassmen. I think it is despicable, but that is the nature of the game now. Our goal is, again, to find guys that want to be here and want to get a degree from St. Lawrence.”

Whoa.

Of course, he’s seen goaltender Kyle Hayton and defenseman Jacob Pritchard, who current leads Hockey East in scoring with 13 goals and 19 assists, leave as graduate transfers. Those guys clearly wanted their degrees from St. Lawrence, because they got them before they left.

Wodon came back today with further thoughts on the situation at SLU, among them:

“There is a $17 million renovation to Appleton Arena on the horizon. Let’s hope that helps. I’m friends with at least a dozen St. Lawrence people and would love to see the program turn it back around. I’m just not sure it’s possible any time soon. They might need a clean slate, starting from the top, i.e. the AD.”

USCHO’s Nate Owen notes that Brown would have home ice in the first round if the playoffs started tonight. They visit Princeton and Quinnipiac this weekend, and Pricneton is definitely a winnable game for the Bears.

Tickets are moving well for Yale’s visit to local rival Quinnipiac. The Bulldogs and Bobcats are tied for second place in the ECAC heading into tonight’s game.

Times Union: RPI putting it all into one game

With Harvard playing in the Beanpot Monday night, RPI will play just one game this weekend, visiting Dartmouth Friday. The Engineers are coming off a three-point weekend and could, as I predicted before the season, earn home ice for the first round of the ECAC Tournament.
